GVI stands for “Green Vehicle Index”. The GVI Project is a research project funded under the European Union’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020.

The GVI Project

The GVI Project was set up to accelerate and improve the Green NCAP consumer programme. At the heart, new state-of-the art test procedures, and criteria for assessing a car’s environmental performance were developed, covering all types of available propulsion systems. An improved technology-neutral rating methodology was devised that turned complex, technical measurements, made in the laboratory and on-road driving tests, into a simple overall verdict and information that is easy to digest by consumers. In total 49 vehicles were tested and rated, contributing to the Green NCAP database of consumer information.

As this project was transient to Green NCAP’s firmly established programme, this project came to an end in the first half of 2021.

The GVI Project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 814794.
