Driving resistance, comprising mass, aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance on the road (a combination of transmission losses and tyre rolling resistance), is one of the main parameters in the energy demand of a vehicle.

By reducing driving resistance, cars can become more efficient and less polluting. Striving for an holistic testing approach, Green NCAP will assess this fundamental aspect in future phases by measuring energy consumption during real-world driving tests and by specific driving resistance tests. It is hoped that, by including these assessments in the rating, Green NCAP can promote lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles.
