Comments

The Dacia Sandero Stepway comes with a state-of-the-art exhaust treatment system and demonstrates low emissions in the Warm Test, but scores only averagely in the Cold Test. In the Highway Test, slightly elevated ammonia (NH3) and CO emissions limit the result. Although being robustly controlled and below the thresholds in all tests, the particulate emissions could be further decreased. Due to lower results in the other indexes, the Stepway does not qualify for the additional robustness testing.

The Sandero Stepway is a hatchback with a SUV-like trim. This has a noticeable impact on the energy efficiency. In the Warm and Cold Tests, around 5.8 l/100 km petrol are needed. The Highway Test is conducted with 7.8 l/100 km. In the On-Road Drive, a consumption of around 5.7 l/100 km can be expected.

Comments

The Greenhouse Gas Index is based on a Well-to-Wheel+ approach, meaning that the greenhouse gas emissions related to the supply of the energy are added to the tailpipe emissions. The result is a total of about 167 g/km CO2 equivalent for the WLTC+ tests and 221 g/km CO2-equivalent in the BAB130 Highway Test, leading to an overall result of 3.3 out of possible 10 points in the Greenhouse Gas Index. With robust control of laughing gas (N2O) and methane (CH4), the car earns bonus points.

Our verdict

Tested here is the Dacia Sandero Stepway, equipped with the 67 kW petrol engine. It is a hatchback with a SUV-like trim, targeting wide audience. The car comes with a state-of-the-art exhaust aftertreatment system and scores an above-average 6.1/10 in the Clean Air Index. The petrol consumption is as can be expected for this type of vehicle and powertrain, resulting in about 5.7 l/100 km in the standard On-Road Drive and a worst measured case of 7.8 l/100 km in the demanding Highway Test. The values are enough for an Energy Efficiency Index of 4.8/10. Due to the unspectacular consumption figures and the addition of the upstream greenhouse gas emissions for the supply of the fuel, the Greenhouse Gas Index receives only 3.3 points out of 10 and the car misses the qualification for the additional robustness tests. With an Average Score of 47%, the Sandero Stepway earns 2½ Green stars.
